I was lucky enough to bag a room at the eagerly anticipated and newly opened Soho Farmhouse last week. Set amongst 100 acres of Cotswolds countryside, it is full of the stuff that rekindles childhood memories; cabins on lakes, outdoor baths and bottles of milk left on your doorstep overnight ready for your morning cup of tea!
Upon arriving at the gatehouse we were greeted and whisked to our cabin in a BMW eco car, electric vehicles are the only form of transport allowed onto the site.
After a brief tour of our new surroundings we arrived at our cabin, Number 10, a corrugated iron clad outhouse tucked away in a far corner of the grounds on a little stream. Our two bikes with the saddles pre-adjusted according to our height and wellie boots in our size were on the doorstep outside.
We stepped into our home for the night and I instantly felt the joyous memories of being a kid come flooding back – our pint bottle of milk was in the fridge. There was a sourdough loaf and some cheese (made on-site) so we could have cheese toast when we were peckish. Along with a very well stocked drinks fridge and tuck drawer.
The huge bed, deep sofa and log burner completed our room. The bathroom comes with all the supplies you could possibly need; mini deodorant, toothpaste, cleanser, toner… there really is nothing that they haven’t thought of.
I didn’t think that there was anything further to see until we stepped out onto our deck to see an outdoor bath along with every perceivable product from the Cowshed range. I felt like I had died and gone to a Robinson Crusoe inspired heaven.
You’ll find all-day dining in the Main Barn, there is also a farm shop & deli, a 24-hour pub, Cowshed Spa, heated indoor/outdoor swimming pool, 5-a-side football pitch, stables, a teenie barn for children – it really is Center Parcs for the A-List! And…it’s still in its opening stages, so lots of it is yet to open. There is going to be an Electric Cinema, further restaurants including my personal favourite Chicken Shop, full gym along with House Ride (Soho’s House’s new spin studio offering), there’s also talk of an ice-skating rink for the winter.
I know I for one, cannot wait to return!!
