No need for New Years Eve woes…

28th December 2015

For the last few years I’ve spent New Years Eve on faraway shores. So, the prospect of being in London this year felt very odd and slightly daunting. It’s funny, the questions and worries of what you are and aren’t going to do began a few months ago and it left me a little worried as I didn’t have the usual ‘I’m going away’ answer to use!

To escape the worries of what we were or weren’t going to do my boyfriend and I decided that we were going to stay in and make a proper night of it; an over the top three-course dinner, cocktails, champagne, games, props and the main ingredient; we have to dress up! Properly dress up as if we were going to a really posh restaurant and to a glamorous bar! I’m so excited about it, my friends now ask what I’m doing and I have so much fun telling them about what we have planned!

Realising that lots of people are still looking for the ‘coolest party’ or the ‘best restaurant’ influenced me to write this post. New Years doesn’t have to be a letdown, or an incredibly expensive night, use your house and make a one-off evening there! It’s not likely that you’ll dress up for dinner or cook Beef Wellington any other night of the year so use this as an excuse to do that. This also doesn’t have to be restrained to you and your boyfriend/girlfriend, the below ideas would work in any situation with however many of you, although dinner for more than 10 might be too much!!!

Below is our menu for the evening, I’ve picked recipes where the majority can be made ahead so we can be prepared and then get ready – I don’t want to be cooking in my dress and heels!!! Now, you of course don’t have to ‘properly’ cook anything – all of the main supermarkets will offer dinner party ready-prepared meals, M&S have a special New Years Eve Dine In for £20 offer which includes 3-courses and a bottle of wine or cava.

Nini Bellini – a true classic, peach bellini – the peach puree can be made ahead so we just need to top up with prosecco when we’re ready!

Creamy Mushroom Soup – yum yum yum, nothing better than a really wholesome warming soup.

Beef Wellington – now I really think this is the no.1 blowout dish, I’ve never made it before but it seems to be the ultimate dinner party dish. Again, it can be made ahead of time so just needs to be popped in the oven and then just to blanch some greens ahead of serving..perfect!

Pecan Pie – what better way to finish off a meal of pure indulgence than with a slice of Pecan Pie and cream. I plan on making this ahead of time and will just warm before serving

Then our plan for afterwards is to do the following;

– Look at our 2015 resolutions and see where we succeeded and failed

– Plan our resolutions for 2016

– Look back on 2015 using these free printable cards from Alice and Lois. This is such a great way to go back through the year and will remind you of lots of moments that you’ve forgotten.

We have some wonderful Moet Ice to drink to toast in the New Year which I plan to serve with some fresh strawberries!

I’ve just bought these amazing props – just because we’re not going out doesn’t mean we want our New Years Eve selfies to be compromised! These are available on Etsy and are instantly downloadable so you don’t have to wait on delivery. Kate Middleton’s parents company Party Pieces also have some really wonderful decorations that will be delivered in time!

And last but certainly not least, what to wear!! I have the below dress from REDValentino at net-a-porter which I plan on wearing with some cute heels – it’s in the SALE so is quite a good deal – there’s also some excellent deals to be had on the high street at the moment as well as online!

I hope you have a wonderful New Years whatever you decide to do – see you all in 2016!!
